The Importance of Experience in Adult Circumcision

At Thornhill Circumcision Centre, our doctors are experts in different circumcision methods. They can perform sleeve, sutureless (glue), freehand, forceps guided, stitches, dorsal slit, revision, redo circumcision, preputioplasty and frenuloplasty. Frenuloplasty is when they release or divide a short tight frenulum. This can cause the head of the penis to tilt down during erections. This is also called “frenulum breve.” The surgeon can talk to you about high and low cut, tight and loose cut types of circumcision.

It is important to have an experienced doctor for circumcision. They can explain the procedure, answer your questions and help you choose the right method. They can also help you understand what to expect before, during and after the procedure.

Procedure

A local anaesthetic is injected into the base of the penis and all around the shaft. This is done with a single injection, but it might feel like 2-3 jabs. This provides safe and effective pain-relief during the operation. It is used as the only form of anaesthesia around the wound. The patient is not put to sleep during the procedure.

This also helps to reduce post-operative pain for about 1 hour. The entire foreskin is removed using an incision just behind the head of the penis. This means the head of the penis will be completely exposed all the time.

After the procedure, you may need to take some time to recover. Your doctor will give you advice on how to take care of yourself during this time. This may include keeping the area clean and dry, avoiding certain activities and taking pain relief medication if needed.

Alternative to Circumcision

There are other options instead of full circumcision. These include excision of frenulum, V-Y plasty operation called preputioplasty, frenuloplasty and partial circumcision. There are also medical treatments available.

These options are based on personal preferences. You can discuss them further with our specialist surgeon. They can help you understand the benefits and risks of each option and help you make a decision that is right for you.

If you are considering circumcision or an alternative procedure, it is important to talk to an experienced doctor. They can provide you with the information and support you need to make an informed decision about your health.
